There are 3 different types of spiritual gifts mentioned in the bible. Each set of gifts have a different function in the body.  Often people are confused about these gifts and how they are to function in the body. I will break the gifts down into 3 categories in order to help bring some clarity to the spiritual gifts.  

1) The Gifts of the Spirit - There are 9 Gifts of the Spirit 
    that are mentioned in 1Corinthians 12:7-10.
    These are supernatural gifts that operate under the unction
    of the Holy Spirit. They are: Wisdom, Knowledge, faith,
    healing, miracles, prophecy, the discerning of spirits,
    tongues and the gift of interpretation.

2) The Ministry Gifts - There are 5 of these gifts mentioned in
    Ephesians 4:11 they are often referred to as the
    5 fold ministry gifts. They are mentoring gifts, given in order to
    equip the body so they can function as true
    representatives of Christ. They are: Apostles, prophets,
    teachers, evangelists and pastors.

3) Motivational Gifts - These gifts are referred to as
    motivational gifts because they are the gifts that motivate us.
    There are 7 of these gifts mentioned in Romans 12:6 - 8.
    These gifts are natural gifts. 
    They are the gifts we are born with. These gifts make us who
    we are and are built into us. They are grace gifts given to us 
    for the purpose of serving and blessing one another.
    They are: Perceiver, server, teacher, exhorter, giver, 
    administrator and compassion.
    Many people in the body of Christ do not know what their gifts
    are or what they are called to do. If the body does not know 
    what their gifting's are then how will they function
    effectively in the way God intended. So often we see people
    trying to fit where they aren't gifted. This can cause
    discontentment and frustration. It also robs those that are
    gifted in those areas from filling the position. When we don't
    discern the body properly and put people in the wrong place
    it can cause competition and jealousy. When you are in the
    place you were created for it causes great joy, (because you
    get to do the job as opposed to having  to do the job). The 
    body begins to celebrate one another and support each
    other as opposed to competing with one another. There is
    nothing quite so rewarding as understanding yourself and
    who God created you to be and being allowed to operate
    in the gifts He has placed in you.
